Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express Review
If you travel frequently on Delta Airlines for business and have the need for an elite credit card in your wallet, then look no further than the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express, a Credit Cards House advertiser.
This card falls right in between the American Express Gold Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card and their premium Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card. The Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business credit card from American Express comes with some very useful travel benefits and gives its cardholders the chance to earn Medallion® Qualification Miles on purchases.
What You Get
Once you have the card, you will earn two miles per dollar spent on any Delta Airlines purchase. Every other purchase will earn one mile per dollar. There is no limit to the number of miles you can earn with your card, and unlike some airlines, your Delta SkyMiles will never expire.
You will also receive a $100 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase within the same three-month period.
You will be able to redeem your miles on domestic saver level award flights for as little as 10,000 miles. You will also be able to use them towards merchandise or donate them to charity.
For being a Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business cardholder, you have the ability to earn an annual miles boost. When you spend $25,000 in a calendar year with your card, you will receive a bonus 10,000 Delta SkyMiles and 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles. If you spend $50,000, you will receive another 10,000 Delta SkyMiles and 10,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles.
When you renew your card and pay the $195 annual fee, you will receive a companion ticket. This is valid for one round-trip economy ticket within the continental United States with the purchase of a second round-trip ticket. Depending on the route, this alone could justify the high annual fee on the card.
The card also comes with a few travel benefits, which will help make your trips a little more comfortable and less expensive. You will receive your first checked bag for yourself and up to eight other people traveling on the same reservation. For a family of four this would be a $200 savings on a round-trip flight.
There will be no more waiting for others to board flights first. You will receive zone 1 priority boarding, giving you the ability to find overhead space for your bags and settle into your seat before others. When making in-flight purchases, you will receive a 20% discount. This includes food, beverages, and even entertainment. If you have a long layover and want to spend the time in a Delta Sky Club, then you will receive a reduced fee. Normally a day pass costs $50, however cardholders can purchase them for $29.
What You Don’t Get
If you are looking for a card that has an introductory 0% APR on either purchases or balance transfers, then this isn’t going to be the card for you. Instead it has a variable 20.24%-29.24% APR depending on your creditworthiness.
The Bottom Line
With an annual fee of $195, the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express isn’t the cheapest card to carry in your wallet. However, it does give you the ability to earn elite status along with quite a few other benefits for frequent Delta flyers.
