The Best Business Credit Card for International Travelers
It might be a while until international business travel returns to pre-pandemic numbers. However, those who are currently traveling outside the U.S. for business are likely to have some very good reasons for doing so. And, with all of the increased testing and even vaccination requirements for traveling overseas, it’s now more important than ever to have a credit card that will offer you the most possible benefits when you leave the country, such as the Business Platinum Card® from American Express, a Credit Cards House advertiser.

Streamline Your International Journeys
The Business Platinum Card® from American Express allows you to avoid much of the hassle you’ll face when traveling, especially on international trips. Start off with a $100 credit toward the application fee for Global Entry, which includes TSA PreCheck (enrollment required). This will allow you to quickly pass through domestic security, while offering you expedited processing when going through immigration when you return to the U.S. Combine that with the $189 annual credit for CLEAR, and you’ll go straight to the front of the TSA PreCheck lines at airports that utilize the CLEAR program (enrollment required).
The Business Platinum Card® from American Express also offers the American Express Global Lounge Collection®, which includes Delta SkyClubs, Priority Pass Select lounges and the luxurious American Express Centurion lounge network (enrollment required). Other perks that can be used for international travel include a $200 annual airline fee credit, a 35% bonus on reward points used to pay for eligible fares and access to the American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts program (see benefit terms).
When you reach your destination, Business Platinum cardholders will enjoy Gold elite status with both the Marriott Bonvoy and the Hilton Honors programs. You’ll also enjoy premium rental car privileges with Hertz and National (enrollment required).
And when you’re ready to take your travel to the next level, the American Express Private Jet Program offers discounts on Wheels Up Connect and Core memberships (enrollment required). You even receive a credit added to your Wheels Up account for use toward your initial flight within your first year, depending on the Wheels Up Membership that you select.
Protecting Your International Trips
When you leave the country, you often leave behind the familiar and take a chance that things won’t go wrong. But when the time eventually comes where everything doesn’t go according to plan, the Business Platinum Card® from American Express has got you covered. When you purchase your round-trip ticket with your card, its trip delay insurance will cover you when you have a delay for a covered reason for over six hours. Trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance is also provided to reimburse you for nonrefundable tickets if your trip is canceled for a covered reason.
To protect your business equipment when you travel, there’s even a baggage insurance plan that covers lost, damaged or stolen bags up to $2,000 for checked baggage and up to a combined maximum of $3,000 for checked and carry-on baggage (see benefit terms).
Also, the Business Platinum card comes with access to a Premium Global Assist® Hotline, that you can use when you travel more than 100 miles from home. It provides you with 24/7 medical, legal, financial or other select emergency coordination and assistance services. In fact, emergency medical transportation assistance may be provided at no cost only if approved and coordinated by Premium Global Assist Hotline. However, card members may be responsible for the costs charged by third-party service providers (see benefit terms).
With all of these perks and benefits, it can be easy to forget that the Business Platinum card will offer impressive rewards for your spending. You earn 5x Membership Rewards points for flights and prepaid hotels booked at AmexTravel.com. You also earn 1.5x points on eligible purchases at U.S. construction material and hardware suppliers, electronic goods retailers, software and cloud system providers, and shipping providers. And when it comes to larger purchases, you also earn 1.5x on charges of $5,000 or more, on up to $2 million of these purchases per calendar year (see benefit terms).
These points are extremely valuable when transferred to miles with American Express’s airline partners. When those miles are redeemed for premium class international travel, it’s often possible to receive several cents in value per point redeemed.
Many years ago, American Express ads used the slogan, “Don’t leave home without it.” But, when you’re traveling internationally in these uncertain times, this old saying appears to apply to the Business Platinum Card® from American Express more than ever.
