If you have ever had loyalty status with an airline, then you know exactly how great the perks can be. You can receive complementary upgrades to a premium cabin, priority check-in and boarding, and even more frequent flyer miles on flights.
A lot of times loyalty status is earned from the miles you fly with an airline. However, sometimes it can be from the money you spend with the airlines co-branded credit card. One card that gives you elite qualifying miles is the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express, a Credit Cards House advertiser.

What You Get
When you sign up for the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express, you will receive a 35,000 Delta SkyMiles bonus after spending $1,000 within the first three months. In addition, new cardholders will also receive 5,000 Medallion® Qualification Miles (MQMs). If you make a purchase with Delta during the first three months then you will also receive a $100 statement credit.
One of the best features of the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express is the companion ticket that you will receive when you renew your card each year. You will receive a free domestic round-trip coach ticket (you will pay taxes and fees) when you purchase another round-trip ticket. This can easily make up for the $195 annual fee that comes along with this card.
Another great feature is that you are rewarded for being a big spender. Those cardholders that spend $25,000 in a calendar year will earn an extra 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles and 10,000 bonus Delta SkyMiles. If you spend $50,000 in a calendar year then you will earn another 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles and 10,000 more Delta SkyMiles.
Each time you use your Platinum Delta SkyMiles® credit card you will receive 1x miles for each dollar spent. For any purchase you make with Delta Airlines you will receive 2x miles.
When you fly Delta Airlines as a cardholder, you and up to eight travel companions will receive your first checked bag for free. For a family of four this would be a savings of $200 for a round-trip flight. In addition, you will also receive priority group one boarding.
Each time you use your Platinum Delta SkyMiles® credit card on eligible in-flight purchases you will receive 20% back as a statement credit. This includes in-flight food and beverage purchases, entertainment and more.
If you are traveling and have a long layover then you and up to two travel companions will be able to relax in a Delta Skyclub for a reduced fee of $29. While you are in the SkyClub you will be able to enjoy complementary snacks, drinks, wifi, satellite TV and more.
What You Don’t Get
If you are looking for a credit card that you can earn bonus points for the spending you do in different categories like gas or groceries, then the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express isn’t the card for you. There are no bonus points for anything besides Delta Airlines flights.
The Bottom Line
If you are a frequent Delta Airlines passenger then the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express is a great option. Even though it has a fairly high annual fee, the annual companion certificate as well as the ability to earn bonus Medallion® Qualification Miles and Delta SkyMiles®, make it well worth it.
